In affiliation with the Ohio History Connection (formerly Ohio Historical Society), the Friends group has gotten the necessary fund-raising effort off to a good start. Former Ohio First Lady Hope Taft and the Friends will be reaching out to people throughout the state and recruiting anyone who is willing to support this important effort.
Public events have been held in Cincinnati, Dayton, Cleveland and Chillicothe to raise awareness and seek support for the Nomination effort. If you would like to help organize an event in your area, please follow the contact information below.
The Friends created a video about the nomination and its benefits to Ohio, in which experts from Hopewell Culture National Historical Park and the Ohio History Connection, and other professionals discuss the cultural significance of the earthworks, and why they should be preserved as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Watch the “Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks – Ohio’s World Heritage Opportunity” video on YouTube.
